Merlin 3D Ships
(March
5, 2001) Digital Immersion Software Corp. has announced the worldwide
shipment of Merlin 3D, the company's flagship software application
for the standard desktop computer. Merlin 3D is a Windows-based
software solution that offers a photo-realistic rendering, animation,
and modeling environment for designers, visual artists, and other
digital content creators.
"With
Merlin 3D and our already popular NAV 3D, digital artists, architects
and engineers will be able to experience a whole new level of
productivity and ease of use," said Mark Jewell, the company's
founder and President. "Our products are designed to empower
users by providing powerful, production-ready tools at a great
price. For example, 'Subdivision Surfaces' is typically sold as
an extra feature in most packages, yet we include an amazing implementation
built directly into Merlin 3D."
Select Features:
1) Deformations. Interactively Deform your object in real-time
using animated modifiers like stretch, scale, uniform scale, bend,
taper, twist, pull, and bulge.
2) Booleans.
Merlin 3D has Boolean functions which allow you to create custom
objects by adding, subtracting or intersecting two objects together
to produce a new object.
3) Subdivision
Surfaces. The latest technology in organic modeling techniques.
Merlin 3D uses an extremely fast, proven technique, allowing
maximum creative freedom, and more control.
4) 3D Text.
Create 3D text objects from any available TrueType font.
5) Real-Time
Lights. Merlin 3D has a variety of lights to illuminate a scene
or object. Many special lighting effects can be achieved in real
time. Editing or animating the light color and strength, spotlight
angles, etc. can produce dramatic lighting conditions instantly.
6) Model/Rendering
Abilities. Merlin 3D can handle very large models of over 200,000
polygons each, and textures up to 2048 x 2048 without a major
performance hit. Using common 3D cards, Merlin 3D is capable of
handling scenes of more than 1,000,000 polygons, at acceptable
speeds. Merlin 3D uses Lightworks Pro 5.6 as its rendering engine.
7) Material
Editor. Using Paint Libraries, paint objects with any color or
load a texture from a stored location. Users can edit the texture
or make colors shine, glow or be transparent -- the effect can
be viewed instantly. Even use the new multi-layered paint shader
for simulating clear coat automotive paints, lacquered wood, and
more.
8) Texture
Mapping: Adjust the UV mapping type (flat, box, sheet, spherical,
cylindrical, and chrome), then visually customize scale, rotation
and position coordinates of any texture easily and interactively
in real-time for perfect results.
9) Texture
Library: Merlin 3D comes with an extensive material library of
textures to use in any scene. Also included are many high-resolution
seamless textures from the famous Marlin Studios collections.
10) Real-Time Animation: Users can create and playback animations
in real time. View fully textured scenes as they scream at unheard
of speeds. Even do real-time motion capture from the NAV 3D device,
easily creating organic animations for objects, lights, and cameras.
These features allow for realistic animation previews without
ever having to render.
11) Inverse
Kinematics: The robotics of motion can be easily applied to your
objects in a few clicks of the mouse for realistic character movement.
