Microsoft XboxXbox Delayed a Week
(by digitalmediafx.com) On Thursday, Digital Media FX announced that Microsoft was backing off of its original commitment to have 600,000 - 800,000 Xbox units ready for its launch on November 8. Yesterday, Microsoft quietly announced a one week delay in getting Xbox units to stores, now planning for a November 15, 2001 release still without a commitment to how many units will be shipped.

"Put a great big X on Nov. 15,'' said Robbie Bach, chief Xbox officer at Microsoft. ``Xbox is the one worth waiting for. It's the only video game system being manufactured in North America. This is significant because it assures retailers that we can keep filling the retail channel with new Xbox units week after week.''

Microsoft is committed to having no fewer than 15 games available by the time the unit launches on November 15. The delay moves the Xbox premiere closer to that of Nintendo's GameCube, which will launch on November 18, 2001.

Celebration Weekend in Disney's Hometown
(by digitalmediafx.com) The boyhood hometown of Walt Disney - Marceline, Mo. - is celebrating Walt Disney's Centennial with a weekend celebration, one that was nearly canceled due to the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Walt Disney lived in Marceline from 1906 - 1911 and the surroundings became his inspiration for Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland. The celebration started yesterday with several events and will continue through Sunday. Some people flew in from other countries, despite airline security concerns, to attend the event.

Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 and died on December 15, 1966.

News Link of the Day - A Clint Eastwood Loner in a Vampire Cartoon

According to the New York Times:

"The cartoon features that the Japanese call anime have developed a solid cult following in the United States and Europe, and as their exportability (and profitability) has grown, they have evolved tremendously from the crude cut-out animation that characterized early efforts like Astro-Boy and Speed Racer..."
