Video Games Change
After Terrorist Attack
(by digitalmediafx.com) Video game studios are considering changes to
several video games in light of last week's terrorist attack against the
United States. Microsoft was the first company to announce changes stating
that it is removing the World Trade Center towers from its Flight Simulator
2002 game. The company is also removing, from past games, a portion of
video in which an airliner collides with a skyscraper.
Sega also announced
the postponement of one of their games in the following statement:
"Sega Corporation
was greatly saddened to learn of the terrorist attacks on the United States
on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Our deepest condolences go out to the
families and friends of those injured or who lost their lives in the horrific
events.
At this time, we have
decided to postpone shipment of 'Propeller Arena' for Dreamcast. Although
the game content does not deal with terrorism in any way, it is possible
for a determined individual to deliberately play the game in a manner
that generates images similar to those we have seen on the news. We want
to avoid causing any additional grief to those involved in this week's
tragedy and feel this is an appropriate action.
Again, our hearts go out to those affected by Tuesday's tragic events."

Harry Potter and
Lord of the Rings Eye Shrek
(by digitalmediafx.com) So far this year no movie has been able to
even closely challenge PDI/DreamWorks animated Shrek at the box
office. To date Shrek has brought in $263.5 million. In second is Rush
Hour 2 which has made $206 million to date, much more than the original
Rush Hour. The upcoming Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
and Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring are considered potential
rivals to Shrek's box office crown even though they don't have
the strength of the summer season behind them.
Harry Potter and
the Sorcerer's Stone is being released on November 16 while Lord
of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring is being released on December
19, 2001 (that's a Wednesday).

Weekend Box Office
Estimates
(by digitalmediafx.com) Here are estimates for the top 10 movies at the
box office over the weekend. None of them are heavy in visual effects
or animation:
1. Hardball - $10.1
million
2. The Glass House - $6.1 million
3. The Musketeer - $5.3 million
4. The Others - $4.8 million
5. Two Can Play That Game - $4.7 million
6. Rush Hour 2 - $4.4 million
7. Jeepers Creepers - $3.9 million
8. Rat Race - $3.6 million
9. American Pie 2 - $3.6 million
10. Rock Star - $3.5 million
Disney's G-Rated live
action The Princess Diaries movie easily crossed the $100 million
mark this weekend. It was the only summer movie with a G rating resulting
in a mass amount of family audiences propeling it to take in quadruple
of what it cost to make. This summer's animated movies were all rated
PG or PG-13 and only one, Shrek, crossed the $100 million mark.
