$63.5 Million Estimated Open for Monsters, Inc!
(by digitalmediafx.com) Weekend estimates are in and Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc. had one of the biggest weekend openings of the year, bringing in an estimated $63.5 million and blowing away analyst predictions. Families swarmed theaters as showings continually sold out in theaters nationwide. The $63.5 million easily beat Shrek's opening of $42.3 last May even though Shrek was featured on more screens.

Monsters, Inc. has now set a milestone with the biggest 3-day opening for an animated film ever. In addition 100% of moviegoers who took a studio-sponsored exit poll said that Monsters, Inc. was either "excellent" or "very good".

Final weekend box office numbers will be released Monday night and reported by Digital Media FX on Tuesday morning.

Toy Story 2 Vs. Emmy Awards and World Series
(by digitalmediafx.com) ABC will air Toy Story 2 tonight (Sunday, November 4) amidst stiff competition on other networks. Fox is airing game seven of the World Series and CBS is airing the twice postponed Emmy Awards.

Toy Story 2 will air beginning at 7:00pm (PST/EST) on The Wonderful World of Disney.

News Link of the Day - Computer Animation Fans in for a Fun Week

According to The Spokesman-Review:

"It seems like only... well, hardly yesterday, but maybe a year or two ago that moviegoers were laughing at the sight of two computer-animated table lamps cavorting across the screen.

Those lamps were part of the early Pixar short film "Luxo, Jr." Other Pixar computer-animated shorts include 'Knickknack,' 'Red's Dream,' 'The Adventures of Andre and Wally B.' and 'Tin Toy,' which won an Oscar in 1988..."
