Pearl Harbor Premiere Under Attack
(by digitalmediafx.com) Disney can't seem to escape continued criticism over its upcoming Pearl Harbor movie. Disney is currently holding a $5 million premiere party in Pearl Harbor for the movie, which opens in theaters nationwide this Friday. Press criticized Disney for ordering a record number of layoffs then turning around and holding a huge multimillion dollar premiere for the movie. Disney isn't the only one to receive criticism, however. Over the weekend, the Pentagon came under attack for its participation in the premiere, by sailing the USS John C. Stennis (nuclear powered aircraft carrier) from San Diego to Pearl Harbor so that Disney could premiere the film on the ship's deck. The premiere takes place tonight for 2,000 select guests.

According to the Electronic Telegraph, audiences who have seen the FX-filled movie are giving it mostly negative reviews. The Telegraph further states, "early indications are that, although the huge publicity blitz accompanying the launch will bring in curious audiences, it may have trouble recouping its budget." Disney is setting its opening weekend predictions at around $75 million.

News Link of the Day - Shrek: No Mickey Mouse Picture

According to the Philadelphia Daily News:

"Great rivalries can produce great art, but to date, the feud between Disney and DreamWorks has only given us the sort of dull mimicry typical of Hollywood.

When spurned Disney exec Jeffrey Katzenberg left the Mouse several years ago to build the new DreamWorks studio with Steven Spielberg, the first thing he did was commission some hasty copies of big movies in the Disney pipeline…"
