Ub
Iwerks: 100 Years Later
(by digitalmediafx.com) If Ub Iwerks were still alive, he would
be celebrating his 100th birthday today. Iwerks was vital in the
creation of the Disney animation empire. Iwerks artistic abilities
combined with Walt Disney's visionary storytelling helped breath
life into a mouse and passion into an industry.
"His
prolific achievements and vision have helped to inspire and build
the animation and visual effects community as a whole," says
Don Iwerks, the son of Ub Iwerks. "If he were alive today,
even at the age of 100 he'd be excited by the advancements in
the digital revolution. He'd probably be on his home computer
designing and inventing new processes that would take the industry
to even higher levels."
So who exactly
was Ub Iwerks and why is so little ever heard about him? Digital
Media FX is putting together a three part series analyzing the
life of Ub Iwerks. Today, on what would have been his 100th birthday,
we are releasing part one of the series: "Ub Iwerks: The
Disney Years." To read this new feature, click
