Animation Archives Form Alliance
(press release) Digital Media FX, a leading online publication for
animators, visual effects artists, and animation enthusiasts, has announced
that it will host, and assist with updating, Tim Montgomery's Disney Animation
Archive. The Disney Animation Archive is a comprehensive archive of news,
features, and information related to Disney animation. It is now officially
located at Animation History - www.animationhistory.com
- a non-profit subsidiary of Digital Media FX.
"For years, Tim Montgomery has put together a vital resource for the animation community through the Disney Animation Archives," says Joe Tracy, Publisher of Digital Media FX. "We are honored that we can host the site at our Animation History subsidiary and help Tim maintain it. His work is significant to preserving an important aspect of animation history - Disney animation information."
Throughout the next several months The Disney Animation Archive and AnimationHistory.com will undergo major refurbishing for enhanced style and navigation abilities. Both will remain accessible at www.animationhistory.com during this time.

Shrek
Almost Upsets Pearl Harbor for #1 Spot
(by digitalmediafx.com) Shrek almost pulled off a major upset
by nearly beating out Buena Vista's Pearl Harbor at movie theaters
over the weekend. According to weekend estimates, Pearl Harbor
made exactly $30 million from Friday - Sunday and PDI/DreamWorks Shrek
made $28.4 million. Shrek premiered in theaters a week earlier
than Pearl Harbor making the near upset in Pearl Harbor's
second weekend even more amazing.
Even though Shrek didn't upset Pearl Harbor, it had a much lower drop-off rate than Pearl Harbor, leading analysts to believe that Shrek will easily gross more money than Pearl Harbor.
Shrek next
opens in Italy on June 15, 2001.

Day - Rascal or Racist? Censoring a Rabbit
According to The New York Times:
"Cartoon Network acquired the rights to all the Bugs Bunny cartoons, it announced, in early May, that it would celebrate by holding a marathon 49-hour broadcast of the entire Bugs oeuvre — the first complete airing ever. Then the network blinked.
Twelve cartoons would
not be aired because they contained racially offensive material, the network
said. Animation fans hit the roof…"
