Shrek 2-Disc DVD
(by
digitalmediafx.com) DreamWorks is quietly preparing a 2-disc DVD
set for its hit animated movie Shrek. The DVD is expected to be
shipped in November. The artwork for the cover (pictured here) is ready
to go. DreamWorks has yet to publicly release details of exactly what
will appear on the 2-disc set and whether it plans to do a rerelease of
Shrek this fall to try and top The Lion King as the highest-grossing
animated movie of all time. Shrek is currently the second highest
grossing animated film of all time.
In other Shrek
news, MediaForce (an digital copyright enforcement firm specializing in
Internet anti-piracy solutions) announced that Shrek is the fifth
most pirated movie online. Tens of thousands of downloads of the entire
movie have taken place drawing attention to the issue of digital piracy.
Many movies are surprisingly pirated and available online before they
make it into theaters.

Charts: Animated, Anime, and FX DVDs
(by digitalmediafx.com) It's a very slow week for animated, anime,
and FX DVDs. The only DVD coming out this week in the three categories
is Trumpet
of the Swan. Trumpet of the Swan was originally suppose
to be on VHS and DVD last year. However, after the Academy announced a
new Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the movie was revised for a limited
showing on the big screen. It opened to largely negative
reviews (article
1 & article
2).
The Trumpet of
the Swan is directed by Richard Rich, who also directed The Swan
Princess and Warner Bros. animated The King and I. The movie
stars the voices of Jason Alexander, Mary Steenburgen, Reese Witherspoon,
Joe Mantegna, and Seth Green. The Trumpet of the Swan is the story
of Louis, a voiceless trumpeter swan and his adventure in learning new
ways to communicate.
