Filming for "The Time Machine" Begins
(by digitalmediafx.com) Principal photography is underway on DreamWorks Pictures' and Warner Bros. Pictures' sci-fi adventure "The Time Machine," based on the classic science fiction novel by H.G. Wells. The film marks the live-action directorial debut of Simon Wells, who co-directed DreamWorks' animated hit The Prince of Egypt. The last name of the director and author being the same is no coincidence: Simon Wells is the great-grandson of H.G. Wells.

Even though The Time Machine is a sci-fi live action adventure, Simon Wells history is rooted in the animation world. Prior to The Time Machine, Wells had help direct the following animated adventures: Casper 2, Balto, We're Back: A Dinosaur Story, and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West.

The Time Machine stars Guy Pearce as Alexander Hartdegen, a scientist and inventor, who is determined to prove that time travel is possible. His determination is turned to desperation by a personal tragedy that makes him want to change the past. He tests his theories with a time machine of his own invention that hurtles him 800,000 years into a future where mankind has divided into two groups: the hunter and the hunted.

No release date has been given for the film.

Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles Coming to DVD
The Pluto Campaign(by digitalmediafx.com) Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles is coming to DVD beginning March 13, 2001. The CGI animated series, originally released on TV in August 1999 with effects work by Foundation Imaging, faced many problems during development but impressed many people with its story (outside of the repeated flashback sequences) and animation work.

The first DVD is rated PG and subtitled "The Pluto Campaign". It contains the first four episodes of the series. There won't be many bonus features on the DVD outside of trailers and a photo gallery. Standard DVD items like scene selection are included. The DVD is being released by Columbia Tristar Home Video.

Gamecenter Closes Its Doors
(by digitalmediafx.com) One of the biggest video game Websites online has closed its doors. Gamecenter is no longer being updated according to its parent company, CNET. Since the closure, Gamecenter has received hundreds of email messages like the following:

"Thank you for the last 4 1/2 years. Reading Gamecenter was a daily habit for me, always keeping up with the latest in game news. It's going to be terribly hard for me, like others, to see such a great site go down." --Sean Iaquinto

The Gamecenter staff released a note on Tuesday thanking their loyal users for the messages they have sent, saying in part, "We thank you for your kind words and support."

The move to close Gamecenter comes as its parent company, CNET, scales back some of its operations due to the financial status of Internet companies.
