Strong Overseas

digitalmediafx.com) Square Pictures finally has some good news regarding
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which bombed at the U.S. box office.
Overseas the picture is doing quite well even when put up against movies
like Shrek and Spy Kids.
According to Daily Variety, In Italy, Final Fantasy "reaped about $277,000 on Friday and hit No. 1 in a field awash with newcomers, including heavyweights Spy Kids and Shrek."
Final Fantasy
is also performing strong in Spain (#2), Austria (#1) and Germany (#1).
This is good news for Square, which failed to interest U.S. audiences.
The movie could only muster a grand total of $32 million in the U.S..
It cost well over $100 million to create.
Nintendo GameCube
Gets Boost from Sega
(by digitalmediafx.com) Long time rivals Nintendo and Sega have mended
fences now that Sega is out of the hardware business. Sega plans on releasing
several new titles on the GameCube including Sonic Adventure 2, Phantasy
Star Online, and Super Monkey Ball.
"Sega is making video game history with the announcement of Sonic Adventure 2 for Nintendo GameCube," said Peter Moore, president and COO, Sega of America. "By bringing Sonic to Nintendo's platforms, Sega is delivering one of the world's most popular video game properties of all time to an even greater number of gamers worldwide. Continuing Sega's tradition of innovation, Sega also plans to be the first to deliver online gameplay to Nintendo GameCube with Phantasy Star Online."

Day - Microsoft Delays Xbox Launch in Japan
According to BBC News:
"Microsoft has
said it is to delay the launch of its new Xbox game console in Japan until
February 22nd next year. The company said it wanted to concentrate its
efforts on the Xbox's US launch before rolling it out to other markets,
and denied that technical problems were behind the delay..."
