Spirited Away Reaches $83 Million in Japan
(by digitalmediafx.com) Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi ("Spirited Away"), by Hayao Miyazaki, has now reached $83 million in Japan on its way to becoming the highest grossing Japanese movie of all time in Japan. The anime follows a 10 year old girl on her journey to the Land of Spirits where she interacts with monsters and entities.

Release Date for Jimmy Neutron Moved
(by digitalmediafx.com) The release date for Nickelodeon's animated movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius has been moved from November to December 21, 2001. The move comes amidst an already crowded November month that features highly publicized movies like Monsters, Inc. and Harry Potter.

Kinetics Seeks to Light Video Games
(by digitalmediafx.com) A company called Kinetics, Inc. has developed a new lighting system technology that enhances video game play. Called Surround Light, game developers can easily add lighting control information to their games, so that the action in the game actually drives the special digital lighting systems, adding an entirely new dimension to the gaming experience.

The technology was recently shown off with Activision's Star Trek: Armada video game where explosions lit up the room and red alerts caused red lights to flash.

The system, not yet publicly available, connects to a users PC.

News Link of the Day - Disney Sued Over Pooh Royalties

According to BBC News:

"A US court is about to hear exactly how valuable Winnie the Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood are. A family-owned firm that receives royalties from Walt Disney's sale of Pooh merchandise has accused the media company of failing to report sales of computer software and videos featuring the bear and his friends..."
