Media - Shrek to Score Big
(by digitalmediafx.com) Shrek, the new animated film by DreamWorks and PDI, is receiving a lot of positive advance buzz from major news media throughout the U.S. Most predict that Shrek will be one of the biggest box office movies of the summer.

"It could become the must-see family film of the summer, and not just because of its celebrity voice cast," says USA Today. "The quest of an ogre with a Scottish accent arrives with terrific advance word of mouth, eye-poppingly believable computer animation and loads of sight gags that take aim at fairy-tale characters."

USA Today sees Shrek as one of the five most unique films of the summer. MSNBC, meanwhile, calls Shrek one of the biggest films of the summer.

In addition, Shrek has received a ton of publicity for being only one of five American films to be accepted into the prestigious Cannes competition, which only shows films that "contribute to the progress of the motion picture arts and to encourage the development of the film industry throughout the world"

The New York Times says that "Shrek has been made with computer technology that is being hailed within the industry as the most advanced yet."

The mass of publicity surrounding Shrek will only help bring more people out to see it on May 18 when it is released, with virtually no competition, in theaters nationwide.

Fox Kids Network To Air New Animated Series
(by digitalmediafx.com) Fox Kids Network is gearing up to air a new animated series titled Medabot, purchasing 26 episodes from Canada-based Nelvana, which is producing the series.

Medabot is based in the future when children own pet robots. The series follows the adventures of one such kid and his robot.

The series is being produced in association with NAS/Kodansha and is being presented in anime style.

"Every young child dreams of having a robot, almost as often as they fantasize about traveling into the future," said Maureen Smith, President, Fox Kids Network and Fox Family Channel. "Medabot brings our viewer's imagination to life with over-the-top action and out-of-this-world adventure."

In the movie, Kids compete with each other in "Robattles" that pit Medabot against Medabot in a designated ring.

News Link of the Day - A Hunchback for all Seasons

According to the BBC News:

"Victor Hugo published Notre Dame de Paris in 1831 but his tragic tale of a hunchback bell-ringer is enjoying something of a modern boom.

This week in London three versions of the book will be on stage - the musical Notre Dame de Paris, Strathcona Theatre's Notre Dame and Ophraboom's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Disney too has just produced a follow-up to its 1996 animated The Hunchback of Notre Dame, with the voices of Demi Moore and Tom Hulce..."
