Distribution Rights Acquired by Fox Searchlight
After editing of the Waking Life footage was complete, the animation process began using software invented by animator Bob Sabiston. The software allows artists to paint over the digital footage using a technique of interpolated rotoscoping. Individual brushstrokes can be stretched smoothly across a range of frames, giving the animation a unique look.

The three-day event
will climax with the presentation of The Reuben Award to the outstanding
cartoonist of the year on Saturday night at a black-tie dinner. Past Reuben
winners include Scott Adams, Sergio Aragones, Garry Trudeau, Gary Larson,
Cathy Guisewite, Mike Peters, Jim Davis, Lynn Johnston, Bill Watterson,
Charles Schulz... the list goes back for 54 years. This years nominees
are Pat Brady (Rose Is Rose), Jack Davis (MAD Magazine) and Matt Groening,
creator of The Simpsons.
