Waking
Life Distribution Rights Acquired by Fox Searchlight
(by digitalmediafx.com) Having air time at this year's Sundance
Festival was a big boost for the movie Waking Life, an
experimental animation that transformed live actors into unique
characters, each interpreted and animated by 31 different artists.
Fox Searchlight Pictures has announced that it has acquired the
distribution rights to Waking Life. Fox Searchlight will
apparently release the film nationally this Fall.
After editing
of the Waking Life footage was complete, the animation
process began using software invented by animator Bob Sabiston.
The software allows artists to paint over the digital footage
using a technique of interpolated rotoscoping. Individual brushstrokes
can be stretched smoothly across a range of frames, giving the
animation a unique look.
