Destination
Atlantis Awaits El Capitan Visitors
(by digitalmediafx.com) Those who view Disney's Atlantis: The
Lost Empire at Hollywood's historic El Capitan theater will
be treated to Destination Atlantis, a three story walk-through
exhibit made to look like the underworld of Atlantis. This year
the exhibit will be entirely Atlantis themed and will include
the following elements:
- Props, displays,
and sketches from the animated movie.
- Huge fish
tanks filled with live stingrays, jellyfish, and sharks.
- An educational
glimpse into the history of the legend of Atlantis.
- Atlantis
Laser Tag game in an Atlantis glow in the dark maze.
- A recreation
of the underground Atlantis completely themed throughout the exhibit
so you feel like you're really in Atlantis.
Last year,
Disney built a huge dinosaur exhibit to coincide with its release
of Dinosaur at the El Capitan. The three story exhibit gave a
behind the scenes glimpse of the making of Dinosaur (sound, animation,
special effects), and brought moving dinosaurs to life, including
ones that would spit water or appear from behind plants to "attack."
The exhibit received rave reviews.
Disney is
expected to make an official announcement about Destination Atlantis
within the next several weeks. The exhibit and movie will be playing
at the El Capitan from June 8 through July 15, 2001.

E.T.
to Return to the Big Screen with New Footage
Steven Spielberg is bringing E.T. back to the big screen.
Next April, he plans on re-releasing the film into theaters nationwide
as part of a 20th anniversary celebration. According to Fox News,
the movie will be remastered and contain never before seen footage.
Unlike Warner
Bros., which dropped the ball on a potential widescreen release
of the classic Superman movie (supported by a franchise),
Spielberg has complete faith that audiences will flock to see
E.T. Therefore he is bypassing a limited release in favor of an
all out widescreen push.

News Link
of the Day - High-tech Court Gets Test Run
According to the Associated Press:
"From
a college in England, a barrister questions his star witness,
an aging green-haired hippie whose answers are beamed across the
globe from Australia. Jurors murmur with surprise as prosecutors
re-create an in-flight jet collision with lifelike digital animation.
And a judge
supervises it all from Virginia -- at times talking to a camera
that transmits his image to the prosecutor across the ocean, watching
on a monitor..."
