Disney
Fails to Submit Atlantis for Best Animated Feature Consideration!
(November
23, 2001 - by digitalmediafx.com) In a shocking move,
Disney purposely did not submit Atlantis: The Lost
Empire for consideration in the first ever Best Animated
Feature Academy Award category.
The
New York Times has revealed that Disney's strategy in
not submitting Atlantis: The Lost Empire for Best
Animated Feature Oscar consideration is to put its entire
effort behind Monsters, Inc. It is expected that
when final nominations are announced, all the movies making
the final three nominations will now be 100% CGI.
Disney
could have been put in a tough spot if the final three
nominations had been Shrek, Monsters, Inc., and
Atlantis as Disney represents both Monsters,
Inc. and Atlantis. By leaving Atlantis
out of the equation, Disney hopes to increase the chances
of Monsters, Inc. winning the award.
